Thread Lift vs. Surgical Lifts — Is the ‘Non-Surgical Facelift’ Too Good to be True?

Aptos thread lifts have become increasingly popular in recent years, and they offer patients a non-invasive alternative to traditional surgical facelifts. They are simpler, generally more cost-effective, and capable of achieving remarkable results. But are thread lifts too good to be true?

In this article, I will compare the two treatment types to help you understand their differences and respective benefits.

What is a Thread Lift?

A thread lift is an innovative treatment designed to create a more youthful appearance without invasive surgery.

A thread is inserted into the skin, tightened, then moved into the required position to lift the face. Threads remain in place until they dissolve naturally, leaving the patient with a younger look and skin texture.

The treatment also stimulates collagen production, which cultivates firmer, tighter skin. The human body produces less collagen as it ages, but thread lifting can give collagen levels a boost.

Thread lifts may be used to treat different common signs of aging on the face, including:

●     Sagging cheeks

●     Forehead wrinkles

●     Sagging skin on the jawline

●     Wrinkles and lines around the mouth

The two most popular thread lift treatments are:

●     Cat/fox eye lift: Focuses on the upper eyelid creases to give the eyes a stunning upward slant.

●     Ponytail lift: A comprehensive lift that tightens the top half of the face (from the forehead to the cheekbones). This can create a powerfully revitalized appearance.

An in-depth consultation is crucial to determine which type of thread lift will be best for you.

What is a Surgical Lift?

A surgical lift is a more complex process than a thread lift. Whereas threading does not require incisions, surgery often involves several of them.

A surgeon may cut into the skin in multiple areas, such as along the hairline, around the ears, or below the chin (depending on the areas treated). They will reposition tissues and fat to improve the underlying area, then lift the skin to create a tighter, smoother appearance.

What are Aptos Threads and Aptos Method?

The APTOS method is a groundbreaking, minimally invasive facelift procedure that uses ultra-thin threads, known as APTOS threads, to achieve impressive aesthetic enhancements. Designed to correct imperfections on the face and body, this advanced technique smooths wrinkles, lifts sagging skin, and improves overall skin texture and structure.

Unlike traditional surgical facelifts, the APTOS method offers natural-looking results with minimal downtime and no need for invasive surgery. Whether you’re looking to rejuvenate your facial features or enhance the skin’s elasticity, APTOS threads provide a safe and effective solution for those seeking a fresh, youthful appearance.

At our clinic, our experts are fully trained in the use of APTOS threads, ensuring a safe, effective, and personalized treatment experience.

How Do Thread Lifts and Surgical Lifts Compare?

Let’s take a closer look at the two treatment types and answer some of the most important questions about them.

What Happens During the Treatment?

Thread Lift

A thread-based treatment involves the following steps:

●     A local anaesthetic is applied to the target areas to minimize discomfort.

●     A needle or cannula is used to insert threads beneath the skin’s surface.

●     The thread is pulled and the tissues are lifted into the right position to suit the patient’s unique goals.

●     The threads’ ends are clipped carefully, so they can be left in place to keep the tissues elevated.

●     Antibiotic ointment is applied to the entry and exit sites.

Surgical Lift

A surgical facelift includes several steps:

●     Anaesthesia is used to minimize pain. This may be local or general, depending on the patient and the amount of work involved.

●     An incision is made as subtly as possible to keep scarring discreet.

●     Fat is redistributed or removed from below the skin, and tissue is repositioned to cultivate a tighter appearance once the skin is back in place. Excess skin may be removed.

●     The skin is repositioned carefully.

●     All incisions are closed using stitches that will either dissolve or be removed later. In some cases, skin glue may be used instead.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

Thread Lift

Thread lifting will usually take around one hour, though that can vary. It depends on the type of lift and the patient’s specific needs. I will be able to provide you with an accurate estimation during your consultation, once I have discussed the process and your goals with you.

Surgical Lift

A surgical lift, on the other hand, will typically take far longer to finish than a thread lift. The extent of work involved will determine the duration of the procedure. Shorter procedures may be complete after around two hours, while longer ones can take up to six hours.

How Long Will I Need to Recover After the Treatment?

Thread Lift

Thread treatments require a little downtime, and you will need to take a few steps to aid your recovery:

●     Use antibiotic cream at entry and exit points for five days.

●     Try not to sleep on the side of your face for three days.

●     Do not massage or rub the treated areas for five days.

●     Avoid direct sunlight for three weeks.

●     Try to avoid excessive sweating and vigorous exercise for three weeks.

●     If possible, avoid making exaggerated facial expressions for three weeks.

Common side effects include minor swelling and bruising, though these will only usually last for a few days. You may need to apply ice gently to the treated area or take Tylenol to ease potential discomfort.

Surgical Lift

Recovering from a surgical facelift will generally take longer and have a bigger impact on your routine. Facial dressings will need to be changed, and your surgeon will require follow-up appointments to check on your progress. You will also need to rest for a while to help your body recuperate.

Swelling and bruising can last for a few weeks in some cases, or even as long as a year. Patients may not be able to resume their usual work and leisure activities for up to one month.

How Long Will the Results Last?

Thread Lift

The results of thread lifting improve continually for around three months after the treatment, and the results can last for one to three years. You may undergo the treatment again to maintain the results when it’s safe to do so.

Surgical Lift

After a surgical facelift, the results may last for as long as 15 years in some cases depending on the specifics of the procedure. However, further surgery could be required if the initial results are unsatisfactory.

Conclusion

It’s fair to say that the thread lift is NOT too good to be true. This is an excellent, safe treatment capable of rejuvenating the patient’s appearance and creating a more youthful aesthetic. It’s non-invasive, requires far less recovery time than a surgical lift, and is more discreet.
