Fat-Dissolving Injections (Kybella)
Kybella is an injectable treatment that targets excess fat underneath the chin. A a series of deoxycholic acid injections gradually dissolve unwanted fat cells, leaving you with a smoother, leaner profile. Because there are no incisions required, Kybella is a quick, safe alternative to other fat removal methods.
Kybella is best suited to those with moderate to severe fat underneath the chin.
Deoxycholic acid is a bile acid, which is naturally produced by your body and helps absorb fat. Kybella is a synthetic form of this acid. When Kybella is injected into the area underneath your chin, the acid works gradually to kill fat cells. The fat cells are then absorbed by your body in the weeks following your treatment. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they can no longer store fat, which means your unwanted fat is gone for good.
Most people notice a reduction in fat after 12 weeks, or 2 sessions. Maximum results can be seen after 6 months.
The required number of treatments varies from person to person. You will need anywhere from 1 to 6 treatments to achieve optimal results, with most people needing at least 2 treatments. Leave at least one month between treatments, or longer if you have post-treatment swelling—you’ll have to hold off until it has subsided completely.
You can receive a maximum of six Kybella treatments.
Before your Kybella injection, you’ll meet with me for a free consultation. I’ll get to know you and your medical history, and determine if Kybella is the best option for you.
No special preparations are required prior to Kybella treatments.
The whole procedure takes about 30 minutes. I will clean and mark the treatment areas, and offer ice and numbing cream. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, I will use a micro needle and make several injections in the area underneath your chin. You may feel a slight warming sensation under your skin.
After the injections are complete, you’re good to go!
There’s a little bit of downtime after getting Kybella. Most people experience significant swelling, which will gradually go away over a few weeks. We recommend allowing 3 weeks to fully recover, so if you have a big event, keep this in mind.
You can minimize post-treatment swelling by:
• Using ice or cold packs
• Using warm compresses in the first few days following treatment
• Wearing a compression strap
• Using over-the-counter pain medications
• Massaging the area under your chin
