During the first stage of the process, your own Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) will be extracted and isolated using a centrifuge. When these platelets are injected into your skin at precise points, they encourage your skin to rejuvenate itself.

This process is combined with microneedling, which uses a physical mechanism that also provokes the body to self-heal. Fine needles are inserted into the surface of the skin in order to create tiny ruptures that serve as a catalyst for the body to restore and mend the area, which in turn smooths over troublesome scarring caused by acne.

With a vampire facial and microneedling, you’ll usually be able to see the benefits of your procedure during the first week after your appointment. The full effects tend to take 1-2 months to appear as your skin’s texture and skin tone improves and the acne scars begin to fade during the renewal process.

With filler injections, the results can often be seen immediately, but the best outcome will usually take 7-10 days. Fillers are not a permanent treatment, however and will usually require top-up appointments after your initial treatment at varying intervals depending on the type of fillers that are used.

If you’re opting for the vampire facial, it’s important to maintain good hydration levels in advance of your appointment in order to increase your plasma levels and make it easier to take a blood sample.

Filler injections also involve a little bit of preparation and I advise clients to refrain from waxing, bleaching, tweezing or using hair removal cream on your face, or any other areas to be treated, for 3 days in advance of your appointment. As filler injections can react with other medications and substances, it’s also important to avoid the following for a minimum of 1 week before your appointment:

Aspirin, Gingko Biloba, Ginseng, Ibuprofen, Omega-3 fatty acids, St John’s Wort and Vitamin E, “anti-aging” products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinols, Retinoids and Glycolic Acid.

Ensure that you avoid booking any treatments during active infections and while on antibiotics.

A vampire facial with microneedling might sound dramatic, but it’s a simple, quick and effective procedure. After drawing a sample of your blood, I will place it in a centrifuge and that device will separate the plasma from your red blood cells. I will then inject the platelets from your plasma into your face at the designated areas to be treated. This will be followed with microneedling, which involves using a device with fine needles to make small pricks into the areas with acne scarring.

If you’re opting for filler injections, the procedure is also similarly easy and quick. I will provide you with ice or numbing cream if you would like to take advantage of those options and I will then sanitize and mark the areas to be treated. I will take my time to inject some of the filler into the affected areas using a cannula, or needle and then assess the improvement before adding a little more if necessary.

A vampire facial does involve a specific aftercare procedure, which I will provide in detail at your appointment. It’s important not to rinse your face until the day after the treatment as your skin needs to absorb the nutrients as best it can. In addition, microneedling can leave the skin reddened for a couple of days and you might experience some mild bleeding and bruising, or a slight feeling of discomfort.

I advise using a simple cleanser that is gentle on the skin for a few days, in addition to a good moisturizer with SPF protection. After a week, you should be able to resume your normal daily skincare procedure.

If you’ve opted for dermal fillers, you will need to consider a bit of downtime immediately following the treatment. You might find that you have some mild swelling or bruising, but this should subside within a few days. It’s a good idea to allow a full week for recovery before booking in a major event.

After filler injections, we also always advise that you:

• Remain upright for 3–4 hours
• Avoid rubbing or pressing on the affected area for 3–4 hours
• Avoid other cosmetic treatments like peels or lasers for at least 24 hours
• Avoid vigorous exercise or bending for 3-4 hours
