Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a treatment designed to rejuvenate and repair the skin. Unlike some cosmetic treatments, there are no artificial substances injected into the body during a PRF session. Instead, PRF uses just a sample of your own blood.
PRF is a popular choice, but patients may decide to try PRF EZ Gel instead. However, while they both begin with a sample of the patient’s blood, PRF and PRF EZ Gel work in different ways. EZ Gel, for example, can lead to longer-lasting volume in treated areas, which has helped it gain attention and hype online.
But how do both treatments work? What benefits do they offer? And how does EZ Gel create plumper skin?
I’ll answer these questions for you below, and explain what you can expect to experience during treatment.
How are PRF and PRF EZ Gel Different?
PRF
At the start of a PRF treatment, I’ll take a sample of the patient’s blood and place it in a centrifuge. This is a machine capable of spinning its contents at incredibly high speeds and separating the various components. In this case, though, the blood spins at a low speed, and the platelet-rich fibrin splits from the rest of the sample.
The fibrin carries stem cells and white blood cells, which are crucial for rejuvenating the skin. For the next stage of the treatment, I’ll inject 100% PRF into one or more areas of the face (depending on your goals).
PRF EZ Gel
A PRF EZ Gel treatment also begins with drawing a sample of the patient’s blood. This is also placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich fibrin, but it is then heated and cooled to form a PRF gel.
The gel is then injected into the target areas. However, the PRF stays at the injection site instead of emanating into the surrounding skin (unlike standard PRF), due to its more solid form.
What Benefits Does PRF Offer?
PRF treatments offer the following benefits:
Stimulates Collagen and Elastin Production
Injecting PRF into the skin stimulates production of two naturally occurring proteins within your body: collagen and elastin.
- Collagen is a key component of tissue, connective tissues, and bones. It gives skin structure and helps it stay strong.
- Elastin allows tissue to expand and return to its original shape naturally. Organs such as the liver and bladder can change their size due to elastin, and it helps skin stay elastic.
However, while collagen and elastin are both important, the human body produces less with advancing age. Skin becomes looser, saggier, thinner, and less plump over the decades.
As a result, you may notice that your jawline becomes a little less defined as you grow older, your cheeks sag, and your skin takes longer to shrink back into shape when pinched.
A decrease in collagen and elastin production also contributes to the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. However, the platelets in PRF release growth factors that trigger the body’s healing process. That prompts the production of new collagen, elastin, and skin cells.
When the full results are visible, treated skin will be plumper, firmer, and more youthful.
Uses Your Own Blood Instead of Synthetic Substances
If you’re wary of trying certain cosmetic treatments that involve injecting artificial substances into your body, that’s not an issue with PRF. It is 100% your own platelets taken from a sample of your own blood. The process it triggers, and the results it cultivates, are natural.
A Simple and Convenient Process
A PRF treatment typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes on average (though times vary depending on the target areas). It’s a fairly straightforward process and convenient to fit into your routine, without needing to take a whole day or two (as you might with invasive treatments).
Achieve Real Results Without Extensive Downtime
PRF treatment leads to a little downtime. For example, the treated areas may become swollen or develop a “sunburn” effect for a few days afterward. Minor swelling may occur for up to two weeks.
What Benefits Does PRF EZ Gel Offer?
PRF EZ Gel offers the following benefits:
Restore Volume and a Youthful Plumpness
As EZ Gel is a more solid substance than standard PRF, it may restore more volume and create a stronger plumping effect. EZ Gel is more like dermal fillers: it’s injected into the skin and remains under the tissue, without drifting to other areas, until it gradually fades. However, PRF can create noticeable plumpness and volume restoration too.
I’ll discuss standard PRF and PRF EZ Gel during your free consultation. Both options are excellent for creating firmer, tighter skin that looks and feels younger. I’ll help you understand which is best for your goals.
Target Specific Areas with Precision
The nature of EZ Gel enables me to inject it into certain parts of the face and focus on problem areas precisely. If you’re concerned about sagging skin on your cheeks, for example, EZ Gel can be injected to restore volume.
Suitable for Use Alongside Other Cosmetic Treatments
PRF EZ Gel can be used alongside a number of other treatments, such as microneedling. If you would like to try additional methods to improve your skin’s appearance and texture, I’ll be happy to discuss them during your free consultation.
How Long Do Results Take to Appear and How Long Do They Last?
You will need at least two sessions for a full treatment, spaced six months apart. You should start to notice minor results around two or three weeks after your PRF or PRF EZ Gel treatment. However, improvements typically become more visible after around four to six weeks, and further results will continue to show beyond that.
Ready to Try PRF or PRF EZ Gel?
PRF and EZ Gel treatments can significantly improve the look and texture of your skin. Both use your own blood to promote natural changes and rejuvenate your appearance in different ways.
